MU Dept of Neurology is full-fledged comprehensive unit providing education, clinical care and research – both clinical and basic neurosciences. Educations: With 30 faculty members, it is providing educational opportunities for medical students, residents and fellows (>25). In addition to residency, there are fellowship programs in Stroke, Endovascular Intervention, Neurocritical care, Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine. Clinical: MU Neurology provides full spectrum of care with faculty having subspecialty training/expertise in neurological disorders including Epilepsy, Movement disorders, Stroke, Dementia/behavioral Neurology, Neuromuscular disorders, Headache, MS, Neurocritical care, Sleep Medicine. There are multiple accredited programs with additional recognition that include: Accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center (providing latest therapies including stroke intervention), Level IV Epilepsy Center, accredited Sleep Disorders Center, dedicated MDA/ALS clinics, accredited neuromuscular labs, Movement disorders program with DBS, and Neurocritical care. Research: There is ongoing Clinical and Basic Neuroscience research. In addition to multiple ongoing clinical trials in neurological disorders (both multi-center trials and investigator-initiated trials), MU Neurology has NIH funding, VA Merit awards as well other federal funding. Basic Neuroscience research areas of funded research include: neurobiology of sleep including effect of alcohol on sleep, biomarkers of TBI, and neurodegenerative disorders.
